Do You Have What it takes to Work at Home?

There is an increasing trend for mothers to work from home. There is an even greater amount of moms who would love to work from home but don't have much idea how to go about doing so.

The fact is that the possibilities are vast and varied. Whether you are interested in direct sales, manufacturing your own products such as natural beauty aids, turning a hobby into your business, or providing a service for other people, work at home moms are making a success at their small businesses. 
  
One of the keys to work at home success is to know yourself. What are your strengths and weaknesses? What interests you? What are you passionate about? Anyone who is already a work at home mom will tell you that building a business is going to take every ounce of energy - physical and mental - that you have. If you also have young children at home, you can double the stress value on that. 

The payoffs however are huge. Not perhaps in financial terms, especially during your fledgling months as you build your business plan, seek financial support, and then start marketing yourself in your chosen business field - but in terms of being there for your children, deciding your work times around your family life, and being in control of the business decisions that need to be made rather than just following orders.

If you work from home however, one thing you must have is a degree of self. You must be self-motivated, and above all, self-disciplined. We all have days when we don't want to work! When you work at home, it's very easy to give yourself the day off - do that too often and you aren't going to be showing a profit anytime soon. Usually however, the table is in the other direction with work at home moms not being able to shut off from their working day despite the fact that they are working past midnight 7 days a week. There are very few unions who would support the kind of conditions for their members that many work at home moms impose upon themselves!

Direct selling is a popular form of business for work at home moms - where companies employ the moms to work for their company selling a particular brand or product range. Here discipline and motivation is also instilled from the company who offer incentives for meeting sales targets within set time frames. If you hate trying to convince someone to buy something they say they don't need or want, then perhaps direct sales are not for you!

It is possible to make a living as a work at home mom if you have what it takes. Getting started however may take time and you can help to boost your income during this period by taking up other work, such as delivering leaflets door-to-door, or filling in online surveys (make sure you find the paid surveys) until you get established enough not to need the extra stress that yet another thing on your to-do list entails!
